Jonathan H. Smith
"The People's Representative" — a lifetime of service, fighting to keep New Hampshire free.
A Lifetime Of Service
Jonathan's service began at 18, when he stepped onto the yellow footprints of Parris Island, South Carolina, to become a United States Marine.
After a medical discharge, he earned a degree in electronics from DeVry University and went to work for 3M. But Jonathan was searching for purpose — and he found it in the call to serve. He joined the NYPD as a police officer, then transitioned to the FDNY as a firefighter, where he took part in the largest rescue and recovery operation in history on September 11th.
When the time came to settle down, Jonathan looked for a place that lived its values — freedom, small government, and rugged individualism. He found that place in New Hampshire, where his family had put down roots in the Berlin/Milan area more than a century ago. He moved his family to raise his children where his story began long before.
In Ossipee, Jonathan returned to service at the local level — as Trustee of Trust Funds, Deputy Treasurer, Budget Committee member, Selectman, and for the last six years, your State Representative. Service is a passion that runs deep, and it will continue in Concord.
Where I Stand
The principles Jonathan has defended for six years — and will keep fighting for in Concord.
The Bearing Of Arms
"All persons have the right to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves, their families, their property and the state." — NH State Constitution, Article 2A. Jonathan believes these words are sacred, and there is no compromise.
Planning For The Future
Jonathan will keep New Hampshire free of a broad-based income or sales tax while pushing smarter zoning reforms that allow responsible growth without overburdening longtime property owners. He'll push back on unfunded state mandates and demand honest accounting so the next generation inherits fiscal stability — not deferred debt.
Protecting New Hampshire
Protect the spirit of Live Free or Die through low taxes, low regulation, and the rugged individualism that makes New Hampshire the freest state in the nation.
Listening To The People
When constituents contact Jonathan, he responds. When constituents need legislation introduced, Jonathan acts. When constituents have a problem, Jonathan resolves it. That's what being The People's Representative means.
Earned, Not Given
From his decision to join the Marines, to the streets of New York City and the firehouses of the FDNY, Jonathan has spent his life answering the call to serve when it mattered most.
That same sense of duty brought him to Ossipee — and to the New Hampshire House of Representatives, where he has served his neighbors with honor for the past six years.
Jonathan doesn't view public office as a title. He views it as a responsibility — one he has carried his entire life and is ready to carry again for the people of Ossipee.
